GF/Vegan/Top 9 Free Hamburger Buns
These soft, fluffy hamburger buns are perfect for your next cookout or sandwich night! Made with my bread blend, they’re easy to make and hold up beautifully with all your favorite toppings.
Makes 3-6 buns (depending on scoop size) Recipe can easily be doubled.
Dry Ingredients:
5 cups my signature bread blend
4 tsp xanthan gum
2 ½ tsp salt
2 tbsp yeast
3 tsp egg replacer powder (get my recipe here)
Wet Ingredients:
3 cups hot water
4 tbsp agave nectar
½ cup olive oil
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 375°F and lightly grease your bun pan molds.
In a large mixing bowl, combine all dry ingredients and mix on low speed for about one minute to evenly distribute everything.
In a separate bowl, whisk together all wet ingredients until well combined.
Slowly pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients while mixing on low speed.
Once combined, increase the mixer speed slightly and beat for 1-2 minutes until the dough is thick and sticky. It should resemble a very thick pancake batter.
Using a scoop (this one makes the perfect sized bun), portion the dough into your prepared bun molds, filling each one about 3/4 full. You need a bun mold because the bread dough is a batter, and molds work best to hold the shape. Smooth the tops with a wet spatula or lightly oiled hands. I typically press down with my palms for a more even top.
Let the buns rest for 10–15 minutes to allow the yeast to activate and rise. If you can place them on top of your warming over, that’s an ideal spot. Once you see the buns starts to rise, pop them in the oven.
Bake at 375°F for 26 minutes, turning the pan halfway through for even baking.
Buns are done when they’re golden brown on top and firm to the touch.
Let cool in the pan for 5–10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
Tips for Perfect Buns:
🥖 For a softer crust, brush the tops with olive oil right after baking.
